5 - Who is Madeleine Delbrêl?

Delbrêl Madeleine, born in Mussidan, in the Dordogne (France) in 1904, after a brilliant youth and avowedly atheistic, twenty years ago experienced a radical conversion and irreversible decision to give themselves to God and to live Gospel in the world in a completely ordinary life, with a few fellow workers and a poor suburb of Paris.
For several years, including the dramatic World War II, he worked as a social worker in Ivry, after which he devoted himself entirely to bear witness to evangelical charity among the marginalized population of Ivry and animation of life of small communities (teams) that are born around her, but yet with the active social commitment. Weaves strong relationships in the movement of the worker priests.

She died in October 1964, but his strong testimony continues to be a reference point for many, this force is also affirmed by the advanced stage of the process of beatification.

The social thought of Madeleine Delbrêl can be a great stimulus for reflection tutti coloro che svolgono attività di servizio sociale oggi.

L’Unione Cattolica Internazionale di Servizio Sociale vuole proporre l’esperienza religiosa di questa significativa figura spirituale come punto di partenza per un confronto costruttivo sul rapporto tra la fede cristiana e il servizio sociale.
